Hello! My name is Janet. Welcome to Wildish Acres!
My pursuit of simple living began shortly after the birth of my first child. At the time, I didn’t know how to cook anything that didn’t come out of a box, and I had little interest in actually learning. Life was busy. My husband and I both worked full time. I didn’t have the energy or inclination to be a homemaker. But during my maternity leave, everything changed. Suddenly, I knew I needed to find a way to be home to raise our baby and any others we might have in the future. My husband wholeheartedly agreed, and we decided that we would move to an area where we could afford to live on his income alone. So, we sold our house in Southern California and moved to the Midwest.
Since then, I’ve embraced this new lifestyle and focused on self-sufficiency, simplicity, and family. It brings me so much joy to prepare a meal from scratch, homeschool my children, sew a quilt or a doll dress, tend to the garden, and create a comfortable home to make our memories in. I’m learning to take a step back and appreciate the simple joys of life. They are, in the end, the most worthwhile.
A little more about me
- I’m a hardcore introvert. I could happily go weeks without speaking to a soul outside of my family.
- I love the rain, especially a good storm.
- I’m a huge bookworm. I always have a book nearby, most often the classics or historical fiction.
- I love to sew, quilt, and embroider. A needle and thread in my hand soothes my soul.
